Don't Be Rude, Give A Girl Some Space!

Good morning fellow beach combers.

I never thought that I would consider writing an article on this topic but
here I am. lol 

This morning while I was at the beach minding my own business, I was startled by the sound of rocks under feet. I looked up and this couple that also searches the shoreline quite frequently were digging three feet away from me. Within a minute or two I had one on either side of me, digging in the same pile of rocks that I was digging in. I don't know about you but I have a method when I sift through the rocks and having someone dig right next to you will mess with your mo-jo, Am I Right?

They made sure to box me in and continued to dig as close to me as they could get. They were sure to dig in every pile of rocks within five feet of me for the next 20 minutes. Yes, I totally understand that it is a public beach and I have no rights over it. lol  This shoreline I am talking about, is a 5km stretch so there's no reason why they needed to be up right my nose.

I decided that I would start to make my way up the beach a bit and give us some space between us. Her husband was right on my heels. I lingered in a small pile for a minute and he stopped at the pile of rocks next to me. By this point I was starting to get annoyed and feeling quite crowded. Instead of flipping my lid I decided to double back the way I came. Within minutes the wife was on my heels again. I tried to pop over to different piles of rocks and every time I turned around she was there. Finally after 40 minutes of this nonsense, I packed it in.

This is extremely rude behavior. It ruined my morning. I haven't been able to get to the beach for some ME time in weeks and I was really looking forward to it. I am super bummed out that this was how I started my morning!! I hit the beach before I had my first coffee. That is how excited I was to head over there this morning!!

So here I am sitting on my couch with my coffee, sorting through some of my past treasures instead!!

When you take your next beach combing stroll, please remember people need their space. Some people need the beach to decompress from a stressful week. What happens if you disrupt a decompression??? You run the risk of an explosion. lol

Not to mention digging withing 3 feet of a stranger while there is 5km of seashore to roam is RUDE. Respect other people space!! Head and personal!!

The nasty weather that January has brought to our foggy shores has made it quite difficult to visit my favorite Sea Glass spots. With the temperature below -20 I have not been out to the beach in a while and let me tell you, I am going completely SHACK WACKY. I have had a lot of things in my life stressing me the heck out, over the last few weeks. Since the beach is where I go to clear my head and shut out the rest of the universe, so I can think. Finding Sea Glass Can Be Tough For Some,Using These Tools,
Will Help You Get More Out Of Your Beach Combing!

As your quiet weekly walks on the beach turn to
full days of beach combing for beautiful sea glass and sea shells!  

You will not find too many pieces of sea glass just walking along the sand.

You will find yourself digging in the pebbles a little more each time. 

Instead of getting all of that sand and grit under your finger nails, try using some of these tools!

Claw Rake: This is the only tool I need when I head to the beach.
This is the exact one I use. 

The reason I love this rake so much is because it is light weight,
and the claws are far enough apart to allow the perfect sized rocks to fit through while I'm stirring the pile. It's also great for picking up the larger rocks that are in your way.
I don't like to dig wholes when I search.
My method is more of a sweeping or stirring than digging. 

Water Proof Gloves: These are essential on those chilly days of beach combing.
You know those days your body just wants to get up and go at 15 below, lol They are great for moving the large rocks out of your path. Water proof gloves also come in handy if you come across any garbage that needs collecting or seaweed piles that need to be moved.
(sometimes the best pieces are under that pile of stinky seaweed!) 

Containers For Your Treasures: Of course you will need something to keep your beach combing treasures in while you walk along the beach. I have made the mistake of collecting sea glass and putting it in my pocket, only to loose half of it bending down picking up more pieces! I recommend something with a secure lid. I have tried plastic bags but I find it's usually too windy for them, lol

The ocean is one of my most favorite places in the world to be.  I am lucky enough to live right across the street from one of the most beautiful and foggy shores of Nova Scotia! I spend as much time on the beach as I can, enjoying the view! 

Through my travels I have come across thousands of pieces of beautiful sea glass pieces. Blues, Violets, Reds and everything in between. You may find pieces that look similar to each other, but you will never find two sea glass pieces that are exactly the same! Like their shape, no two stories behind the pieces are the same. To me that is amazing, and the thought always makes me smile. Usually I end up lost in a daydream of how each piece came to be.

After I get these pretty little pieces home, all cleaned up, sorted by color and dabbed with a little coconut oil to make them sparkle. I sort them by size and shape, then I place them onto a crisp, clean background that will be their new home and new story. Will it become part of a mother's pretty blue dress or maybe a bountiful apple tree!
